Life is ever-changing. Just when you think that you have it all under control, the carpet under your feet moves a little bit. Not much, it’s not taken out completely, it just gets ruffled a bit. Like when a dog comes running, or a child, stops abruptly and “whoops!” the carpet has a fold. Just enough for you to slightly lose your balance. And then you straighten it again and at the same time align it with the stairs or furniture – and it is even better than before!
It has happened to all of us, more than once. And recently in the Meelbroeke realm again. We received fabric that was not quite “there”. Something was a bit off. We are very proud of the quality product that we put out in the market, so our quality control is strict, and we try our best to keep it that way. So, when we realised that there was a problem, we acted immediately. That action changed so many things. It was an interesting experience, trying to figure out what went wrong, I learned so much! I met so many people with fresh ideas and their kindness meant so much when I needed it most.
I am very eager to tell you all that will be happening, but I am just going to leave you some hints for now. We are working on two new ranges. Your kitchen might get a makeover. Yep, you have been asking for it! And there is something interesting coming for summer – something for the pool or the ocean. Yep, you guessed it! We will tell more once it is reality, and we have it in our hands!
At the moment, we are doing a new print as well as some prints in colla companies and they will be available within the next week or so. Firstly, Twaksak. We had an old Springbok tobacco bag, the size of a mobile phone. We shooshed the print up a bit – and we love it! Remember, your grandfather or dad smoked the tobacco in a pipe? It has a brand-new look and purpose now – as a Meelbroek! We played a bit with the colours – and together with the Springbok, it might just become your favourite pants to wear at the next Springbok rugby game! Pictures will be posted soon, and you can order it immediately. (We cheated a bit and launched it at the recent Outdoor X – it sold out!)
In collaboration with Innibos, we will have a very limited number of garments available in the Innibos print for 2025. This is very exciting, as we have been at the Innibos festival for many years with Meelbroeke. We will be open for pre-orders soon, do not miss the chance to add this special, limited edition to your collection! How much fun will it be to wear yours at Innibos? Spreading its wings across the borders of our beautiful country, there is a possibility of a Meelbroeke range for Canada, one for France, Spain and Ibiza and then you will soon find your favourite Snowflake Meelbroek in Windhoek and England. Exporting has some very serious and difficult challenges; we hope to overcome them.
You see, a ruffled carpet sometimes gets you out of your comfort zone in order to fix it. Fix one thing and others might follow. New ideas emerge and wonderful people might help you to get your carpet straight. We all tug at the corners to place it in line with the rest of our furniture and a good brush brings out the colours again.
Do not despair when there is a pull at your carpet. Notice the people around you that will help you straighten it. Those people are invaluable and it’s a good thing to get to know them. You never know when you might be needed to straighten theirs too!
Who knows…..it might be Aladdin’s flying carpet that takes you to new heights!
